My History...

After qualifying as an architect in 1990 I relocated to mainland Europe to avoid the worst of the 90’s recession. Working in unified Germany on both sides of the country, I was involved in private and state funded projects, including competitions and regional redevelopment schemes. On returning to the United Kingdom in 1998 I settled back in his home town of Sheffield with Sylke my wife also qualified as an interior architect

Over the last 20 years working in the UK we have gained a broad range of experience within commercial, retail, health educational and residential sectors. Working as the role of lead consultant on capital and private projects I have managed and liaised with other disciplines and agencies involved in the implementation and construction process, this has involved;

  • Meeting with clients to understand the end-users requirement through detailed discussions and meetings.
  • Quantifying and qualifying projects involving discussions about the expected budget, the characteristics and restrictions of the site and other planning regulations.
  • Understanding the limitations and potential of the site or building.
  • Discussing financial targets.
  • Suggesting and studying all possible solutions if the work is renovation or rehabilitation or a new construction scheme.
  • Bringing and presenting the feasibility study (massing & 3D images or models) developing up to final presentation.
  • Producing comprehensive package of construction information including drawings, specifications and where necessary 3D computer modelling (BIM).
  • Collaborating with other disciplines (client representatives, structural/civil engineers, electrical/mechanical, Building Control, local planning authorities)
  • Checking and commenting upon suppliers and subcontractor’s information.
  • Running projects on site including taking minutes, design reports and issuing site instructions.
  • Site inspections, developing and issuing snagging lists.
  • Utilising fully-integrated cloud-based document and information management systems (4Project/ViewPoint)

I have, over many years been responsible for running projects both large and small. This has increasingly involved preparing and administering health and safety procedures and design risk assessments, which have had to be constantly monitored and updated.

As part of RIBA membership requirements I have maintained a minimum of 35 hours continuous professional development per year. This has ensured up to date knowledge of new technologies, procedures and safety policies all of which, I have endeavored to incorporate into my working practices.

My History...

Before moving over to the UK from Germany, I studied interior architecture at Halle Giebichenstein School of Art and Design, a partnering University with the Bauhaus in Dessau.
Now based in Sheffield with my family, I have over the last 20 years developed my professional knowledge of the British construction sector. Working for various award-winning architectural practices I have specialised in interiors, residential developments, both commercial and domestic, together with the extension, conversion and refurbishment of listed buildings.
Working closely with other professionals I have extensive knowledge of current Building Regulations and local planning policies.
I have fully embraced 2D & 3D computer-aided design technology to assist in the creation and presentation of design proposals to supplement my more traditional hand drafting skills.
